Hey everyone,
It's hard to believe that the holidays are over! Hopefully everyone ate some good food, spent time with the family, and most importantly got to snowboard every day!!! I know I did. Charlie Hoffman, Justin Ducker, John Curtis, Rachel and I have been spending as much time as we possibly can at Nub's while we have the chance. Sure, it rained a couple of days, but even then it was still a super fun time. Now we've lucked out and actually have snow again! The streets are covered, and the hills even more so. Nub's Nob has been blowing their snow guns to get that nice base back. They are back up to 55" and counting. The snow quality is perfect right now and there is still more snow in the forecast. Be sure to get out on your board and ride!

Here's an edit shown below from Jake Breed (hellofriendsproductions.blogspot.com) of the 2010 Rome SDS Stoken! event at Nub's Nob. The non-competitive competition started off with a small air contest to set the mood. Everyone was throwing down. There were no double-corks but plenty of double grabs with some tweaks and twocks. We picked 6 lucky people from that session and put them in the finals. 15 foot airs in the superpipe anyone? NOPE, MINI-PIPE! That's right, the finals were full of kids getting jib-tastic on Nub's Nob's 9ft mini-pipe. Handplants, backlips, and 3ft air tweakers were only a few of the gnarly tricks thrown down. 3rd place and a bag full of goodies went to David Rodebaugh, 2nd place and some 2011 390 Boss' was Nub's Nob's local Charlie Hoffman, and first place winning a 2011 jacket and pant went to none other than Kyle Kearns. The other three people that didn't place we put in a sudden death round on the mini-pipe. Slash contest! Drew Nelson won and received a 2009 outerwear kit. After all of the shenanigans, we had a product toss followed by an epic park session. All the kids were stoked that they got to ride in a contest that was based on fun thanks to the Rome SDS. Thanks to Nub's Nob for holding the Stoken! Nub's Nob will be the only resort in Michigan open until April 11th, so come check it out! PLENTY OF SNOW!!!!!!!

Marie-France and Eiki both take Transworld’s Reader’s Choice Awards

It was a big night for Rome pro’s Marie-France Roy and Eiki Helgason as they were both awarded one of snowboarding’s top honors on Friday night in Denver at the Transworld Snowboarding Rider’s Poll Awards. Voted on by the readers, the men’s reader’s choice award went to our Icelandic killer Eiki Helgason for two stellar video parts in People’s “Nice Try” and Factor Films’ “They Came From” as well as a standout performance at the first annual TWS Team Shoot Out. The women’s reader’s choice award went to Marie-France Roy for continuing to push women’s snowboarding with a part in Absinthe’s instant classic “Neverland”, as well as a part in the TWS Team Shootout video. Marie’s award this year marked her sixth Transworld Rider’s poll award…..Awesome! In attendance at the awards was a big crew from Rome which included company owners, reps, Rome in-house, friends, and even Bjorn who presented an award. A great time was had by all.

Congratulations to Marie and Eiki from everyone at the Rome SDS, and thanks to everyone who voted for them.

College is a really good time for a lot of reasons, one being the mass amount of free time you have on your hands. If you’re anything like us, some of your best memories are nights that include snowboards, building jibs around campus, and a little after-session partying.

With this in mind the Rome SDS has announced the first Ima Betta Jibba: College Backyard Jib Contest.

Most college snowboard crews already have some sort of set-up to mess around on, whether it is a couple rails or boxes in someone’s backyard, a snake-run through campus or even just some barrels or stumps to do some bonking on. Some crews have even put stuff together that would rival their local park.

Well, here’s your chance to get the recognition you deserve for all your hard work at school. Either get off the couch and build that set-up you talked about doing all fall, or just go out and spruce up the set-up you’ve already built. Shoot a short video, snap some photos and send them in to winner@romesnowboards.com by February 1st, 2010.

What you can win: we’ll be choosing the top College Jib-Park and sending a few Rome Team members over to shred and put together a video edit with the winners. For good measure we’ll also be hooking the crew up with a couple new Rome boards.

Entries must be in by February 1st 2010.

To all you shop kids and resort employees, get this shit before it's too late!!! AMAZING job, Mike!!!

With the season kicking off all over the world, the Rome SDS releases the 2011 Artifact 1985 SK.

Last season, Rome expanded the idea behind the shop-kid-only Artifact SK that it has made for the last two years. This time, the idea was to let the shop kids create the art for the SK—Designed By Shop Kids, For Shop Kids. More than ever, the idea was to listen to kids on shred.
As announced earlier in the summer, Mike Forester from the one-and-only Casualties in Marquette, Michigan won the first annual Artifact SK art contest. From there, he worked with Rome’s art director for boards to finalize and refine his ideas (and he ended up designing a couple 2011 Rome board as well).

Meat Justice is the result of Forester’s creative genius on the 2011 SK.

Technologically speaking, this year the SK is built on the Artifact 1985 design, featuring Rome’s Poprock reverse camber technology.

Limited to fewer than 100 boards worldwide, the SK is be available exclusively through Rome’s Operative Program for shop kids and resort employees living in resort-town ghettos.

The Hard Lessons live in Charlevoix!

So one morning I got a friend request on Facebook from my friend Carter. I browse his page and I see that he had a post that said the Hard Lessons played in Marquette, I scroll down and see someone asks "when are they playing in Charlevoix?" and he writes that they're playing tonight!
The Hard Lessons are my favorite live band, super high energy. I've seen them three times, once at the Temple Club in Lansing, once at the Magic Stick in Detroit (with Carter), and now at the Pavilion in Charlevoix. Not a single show was disappointing and I urge you go to one of they're shows. Though at the Temple Club I was forced to watch Motion Shitty Soundtrack, THL blew them out of the water. They have a unique sound and they represent Michigan and the Midwest pretty hard. There is so much more that I can say about them, but I'll let you check them out and decide for yourself. And it was fate that let me know about the show, pretty crazy.

Fish are jumpin and the cotton is fine.

A couple nights last week we went fishing in a super secret spot on a lake. The crew was Matt Cramton, Doug Gulau, Jeff Bunker, Travis Bunker, and myself. We took a pontoon out to the spot and started trolling. We ended up with a few big ones and called it a night at around 5am, I happened to catch this fatty in the picture. Not a bad night.

The next night we all got out of work early and were on the lake at around 10pm with a few hours of no luck. Eventually it started pouring rain, I mean POURING rain. It was raining down, left, right, and yes, even up. We were all soaked and finally Doug had a fish on the line at around 2am. He was a tough catch, that's for sure. There was yelling, screaming, and cheering from all of us. It was straight out of "The Deadliest Catch," no joke. He was a keeper, I caught a couple throw-backs, then we called it a night at 4am. Another GREAT night.

So by now this is old news, but the Rome SDS won the Transworld Team Shootout!!! It's great to see their hard work paid off. I know they're proud of it, as am I.

Here's an edit I put together really quick, literally just through shots in. I was forced to use iMovie so I wanted to put it together as quick as possible.
